Der Ostwind

In despair of finding a worthy opponent, Wolfgang von Kellermann, the German World War I ace known as Der Ostwind, is attacked by a seemingly invulnerable American. As Kellermann becomes increasingly obsessed with seeing his deadly opponent’s face, he finds himself in the duel of his life and discovers at what price he will hold to his honor.
Der Ostwind is a 10 minute short film I made as a student in conjunction with both the Theater and Media Arts Program and Animation Program at Brigham Young University. I wrote the script in 2001. We shot the live-action elements and began animation in 2003. We completed the film in 2006, and in 2007 Der Ostwind was the first BYU film to ever play at the Sundance Film Festival. In July 2008 I finished the first draft of the feature length screenplay version of Der Ostwind.
